PACE/Monongah is a community-improvement initiative organized and endorsed by the Town Council of Monongah and The PACE Project, Inc.

The Monongah Mining Heritage Museum Fund Drive is hoping to purchase and renovate the former First United Methodist Chuch into a Museum / Recreation Facility to benefit all of the citizens of Monongah.

The purpose of the new center will be to focus upon providing a center for the Monongah Mining Heritage Museum. Museum activities and programs will include:

  • A visitor's information hub and guide of the community
  • A multipurpose space with a stage and high-tech media capability
  • Guest lecturers and documentary films presentations
  • A room(s) reserved for displays of mining artifacts and memorabilia
  • A simulation experience (travel into a mine through cyberspace with an online guide)
  • An archive for research and artifact preservation

Community recreation as a means for improvement is a goal which aligns with the results of the Needs Assessment performed by the PACE Research Team from Fairmont State University. Many recreational activities and programs which will be made possible and accessible to the citizens of Monongah as a result of the fund drive include:

  • Aerobics classes
  • A fitness program
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nutrition classes
  • Ty Chi
  • Outdoor Playground
